The thing about Redbones is that sometimes you've got to ignore the meat that's staring you down at every angle. To me, the key pleasures to this place are it's sides and appetizers. You get the Mac n' Cheese fresh, and it's about as close to fatty mana as you'll ever find. The Nachos are adictive, the Buffalo Shrimp is the only kind of seafood in the world I like...it's Pulled Chicken is taaaastee...oh, that's a meat... well, the Mashed taters are so yummy, great great sides...Ever have the corn pudding? Oui Vei yummy stuff...and as for the SCATHING doubts that anybody from Redbones is a southerner: RICKY, the lunchtime server (not a waiter, he's the one who dishes up all that meat) is from South Carolina. And *I* yes, *I* was a waitress there for two years...and I, yes, I, grew up in South Alabama. The cornbread ain't the best, but dip it in some of the Vinegar sauce and yummy. I miss that place, it was so incredibly high stress, so downright DISTRESSING, that it became downright ADDICTIVE. There are still some cool waiters there, basic rule: if they've got a tattoo, they're wicked nice.- Is follow up to post by vedwards ...
Good food, but hardly authentic southern fare. While the hushpuppies and fried catfish were first-rate, I was sorely displeased with the cakey excuse for cornbread, and the ribs were more Albany than Memphis. In their defense, I doubt if many (if any) of the staff have ever been south of the Mason-Dixon. Fabulous beer selection. Fun artwork. -- 10/2/2001 2:54:56 PM
